When Joshua led Israel into the Promised Land, they went through another baptismal ordeal in the Jordan River. The war that ensued was not a just war as measured by the principle of common grace - it was holy war. Then Israel’s kings were mostly pictures of what Jesus would not be like. Finally, the mountain-site of the temple was a picture of heaven itself. Download, subscribe, and tell your friends!

This week, we talk about republication from a few different angles. First, God gave Canaan to Israel because of his gracious promise to Abraham. Second, God is the divine warrior who defeats all of Israel’s enemies - both human and demonic. Third, God’s presence is located in different places before and after Sinai. Finally, the typological covenant of works with Israel shows us that sinners sin. Download, subscribe, and tell your friends!

In this section, Kline looks at how God reveals the consummation of all things in the types and shadows of Israel. Next, he describes the relationship between a covenant that God makes, and the canon (or authoritative body of literature) that governs the covenant. Finally, he ties together phenomena like the Holy Spirit hovering (over creation and over Israel), the tabernacle, and the movement of all of that into God’s Sabbath rest. God creates and he redeems - from beginning to end. Download, subscribe, and tell your friends!

If you are concerned about standing before God on Judgment Day, we double down on our insistence that you have already undergone that judgment in Christ. First, we talk about how different events in the Old Testament were types of the final judgment. Next, we talk about the redemptive judgment aspect of events like the flood and crossing the Red Sea. Finally, we talk about how Har Magedon will be the location of the final judgment.

We continue in chapter 10 this week. First, we talk about how worship during the time of Abraham was not theocratic. He built altars, but the culture all around him was very much like ours. Next, we talk about how - even at Abraham’s stage of history - there was an antichrist crisis. God’s people do suffer, but God has not lost in past antichrist crises - and he won’t lose in the final Antichrist crisis.

Finally, you get an extra bonus with Todd’s helpful understanding of Ephesians 6.

Chapter 4 is the last one that focuses on heaven the way this book has been so far. In this chapter, Kline suggests that the Spirit replicates the glory of God in every aspect of creation. For example, we see the theme of the Spirit of God overshadowing persons or groups of people throughout the Bible. In the same way, God designed certain things in creation to serve that same overshadowing function. But we also talk about patriarchy and Kline’s unique take on the image of God in man. There’s something for everyone!

What will it be like when God transforms this creation into the new heavens and new earth? That is the topic Kline is dealing with in this chapter.
