This week, Chris and Lee are taking a week off. But we still want to bring you high quality biblical-theological content. So we’ve selected this lecture by Meredith G. Kline from his Pentateuch class at Westminster Seminary California because it was one of the few lectures we could think of where he specifically mentioned the incarnation. And that seems appropriate at this time of year. We hope you enjoy hearing directly from Meredith G. Kline!

In this episode, Chris Caughey talks with Lutheran pastor Jordan Cooper about the influence Meredith Kline’s books had on him while he was still Reformed – and how they continue to influence him today. Part of what makes this conversation so interesting is the “language barrier” that exists in the way that different theological traditions use theological language. But Chris and Jordan handle the communication and translation respectfully.

In episode 17, Lee and Chris interview Rev. Michael Brown and Rev. Zach Keele about the book they co-authored, entitled Sacred Bond: Covenant Theology Explored. They have some very helpful ways of explaining the covenants that God made, how we fit into God’s covenant drama, and how the covenants relate to justification for our assurance.

Only one week into our new series where we work through By Oath Consigned, and we’re already taking a break – but we think you’ll understand why. We are excited to have the opportunity to interview Jonathan Kline about his grandfather’s commentary – Genesis: A New Commentary – which was just recently published by Hendrickson Publishers. He has insight into this commentary that no one else will have. Also – notice how easy it is for him to rattle off the Hebrew – almost as if it were his first language. That definitely seems to be a trait of the Klines. Have a listen, and be sure to get a copy of the commentary as well as all of the other exciting resources listed in the show notes!

Family, state and culture are covered as institutions belonging to this period of the delay of final judgment. Listen to find out why this particular covenant is so important to you, how you understand the world, and how you relate to unbelievers. Now that the creation wars seem to have died down a bit, we thought that it would be interesting to revisit the subject of the Framework Interpretation of Genesis 1 and 2. Now that we don’t have to play defense as much, it seemed like a good time to give a positive presentation of the benefits of the Framework Interpretation, and to situate creation in the grand story that the Bible tells. To do this, we invited a special guest, our friend, Bill Baldwin to join us for the discussion. This episode is a little longer than most, but we think it’s well worth it.

Even though Meredith Kline invented new words at times, it is important to pause from time to time and take note of the fact that he was not the first one to say certain things. One seventeenth-century pastor-theologian who understood the Mosaic covenant very similarly to Meredith Kline was the English puritan Samuel Petto. Pastor Mike Brown of Christ United Reformed Church in Santee, CA was kind enough to come on the show and talk to Chris and Lee about the book that he has written about Petto, Petto’s view of the Mosaic covenant, and Petto’s pastoral use of his covenant theology for the comfort and assurance of believers. It was a privilege to talk to him, and we’re sure you’ll agree that it is a privilege to listen to him.
